Educators act ethically and maintain the integrity, credibility and reputation of the profession.
Being a teacher is much more then teaching the future society. It is much more then walking into a school, and spending 6 hours with children in a classroom. Being a professional teacher is having the ability to conduct and maintain the integrity, credibility, and reputation of our profession by adhering to a set of core principles and professional behaviours. Becoming a teacher we need to create, trust, fairness and respect to not only the students, but to our parents, guardians and fellow colleague.
As a teacher candidate, when we are out and about in the community we need to ensure and remember we are representing the University, SD57, and the profession of being a teacher as whole. This commitment involves adhering to the professional and ethical standards that guide our behaviour and decision-making. As we embark on this journey of being a professional teacher, this extends to how we are role models everyday, and how we need to influence our future students’ character development. We can demonstrate this by using honestly, respect, and empathy to not only our students, but to ourselves.
As we uphold our professional integrity, we need to ensure we are held accountable and dedicated to our excellence. As we continue our teaching career, we need to be committed to delivering high-quality education, by being honest in assessments, and acknowledging that students’ areas for improvement and goal setting. As a professional teacher we must take full responsibility for our actions, and decisions. This involves lesson planning, classroom management, and how we interact with our students and colleagues.
