Educators engage in professional learning

As we become future educators it is important that we engage in professional learning and reflective practice to support our professional growth. In EDUC 394, we have had many opportunities to engage in professional learning with the help from Christine. She had made it possible for us to engage and learn from other professionals in the community.

On October 17, 2024 we had the lovely RJay Berra come to the class, to whom gave us a great presentation. Not only is Rjay a former student form the Education Program, he is now been teaching at PGSS for 5 years. RJay plays a HUGE role in the community, as he continues to coach and teach, he teaches and coaches at the same time. The PGSS Hockey program is an opportunity for many students in the program to pursue their dream and passion for hockey, but to also get High School credits for the class.

RJay grew up in Prince George, where his hockey carrier started, he played for the Prince George Spruce Kings, he then played Pro hockey, in which he was able to get to his carrier and schooling started. When he moved back to Prince George, he wasn’t sure that he really wanted to be a teacher, but he never gave up, and finished the program. He knew that little students were NOT his jam, but he know that he had a purpose to stand for the students. RJay is a well know man in Prince George, and when is isn’t on the ice you can find in “wandering” the halls at PGSS, and keeping teenagers out of trouble.

Rjay made it very clear to us that not only are relationships important inside and outside of your classroom, but that there may be those students who still come to see you, event though that aren’t in your class. It is important that we can still be there for those students, and to not forget about them. Do those daily check ins.
