A day of inspiration at the Two Rivers Art Gallery, in EDUC 394. The building it self is much more then a building filled with artwork, it is a vibrant space for creativity, community and culture. The Two Rivers Gallery is located in the Civic Plaza, which is a central spot for downtown. As soon as we entered the building, it was welcoming and inclusive, not only for artists but for everyone who enters the building. This was my first time visiting the Gallery, and I can’t wait to go back. Exploring the two exhibits both so beautiful and creative, that led to conversations and inspiration. The art work varied from bright and bold, to abstract, all showing a sense of story. Although we were not provided with the background knowledge or story about the painting, we had the opportunity to discuss and share the feelings we got from some of the art work.
Not only is Two Rivers Gallery an opportunity to admire the artwork, there is space that is located upstairs that is called the “MakerLab”. A space that is dedicated to hands-on creativity for all. The space is perfect for people of all ages, that offers opportunities to experiment with art, and show their creativity. Our group participated in a water colour activity, where we got to choose from either a self portrait. When it comes to art and painting, i tend to get very discouraged and lack the ability to be creative. I choose to do the self portrait, and i left feeling very disappointed in my painting. This is a learning experience for me, for when i have my own classroom, and students showing their own creativity, i know there will some that will feel the same way i did today. As an teacher, i will need to remember that is beauty in every art piece, including my own.
